USING A LOSS MANAGER OR CLAIMS PREPARER TO ASSIST WITH YOUR CLAIM
Most managers and business owners work long, stressful hours at the best of times. When a loss occurs, the normal day-to-day running of the business does not stop. In fact, many of these day-to-day decisions become crucial to the survival of the business.
It is simply too much to expect any manager or management team to cope with the running of the business, project management of the reinstatement of the damaged property, minimisation of the disruption to the business, quantification of the loss, and management of the insurance claim process. Typically, what occurs is that management is diverted into concentrating on reinstatement of the damaged property and trying to manage the insurance claim process. As a result, they find out, often too late, that their customers have left them and their business has suffered serious long-term damage as a result. Others concentrate on their customers, and find that the period of reinstatement takes far too long or they end up taking a settlement with the Insurer as a matter of expediency, which results in a settlement that is less than they rightly deserve.
The answer is to retain or appoint a loss management consultant, who can assist the management team with as much or as little of the project management and claims preparation roles as is required. This allows management to concentrate on their business and, most importantly, their customers. Research indicates that those that take this course of action have their businesses recover more quickly, find the period of loss much less stressful, and retain a greater percentage of their customer-base.
